Making our Dream of a Park a Reality
Rosemary District residents and stakeholders have been lobbying for a centrally-located neighborhood park since 2016.
After years of searching and negotiating, the City of Sarasota purchased land for a park on the southwest corner of Blvd of the Arts and Central Ave in January, 2021. The purchase was a public-private partnership funded by $890,000 in accumulated Park Impact Fees and $120,000 donated by Rosemary District residents and stakeholders and friends in the wider Sarasota community. Thanks to their generous support, the neighborhood has funds left over to spend on making our park one to be especially proud of.
Let the park design and development begin!
A Park Committee has been formed to represent Rosemary District in joint efforts with the City to turn the land into the park we want. The members of the committee and its plans moving forward were presented at the April 21 Community Meeting. (Slides of the presentation are here.)
RDA expects to work with the design firm selected for this project to gather input from the community on anticipated uses of the park and desired features. The City will likely demolish the buildings currently on the land soon after they are vacated at the end of July, and sod the area while the design process proceeds.
RDA will provide regular updates to the community in the monthly RDA Newsletter, at community meetings and through this website.
